After an extraordinarily stressful and difficult year, you may be planning to end 2020 on a positive note by proposing to your partner at Christmas.
Your Christmas Day proposal should be a truly romantic experience that they’ll never forget – for all the right reasons. So, here are our top tips for winning their heart with the time-honoured question, ‘Will you marry me?’
- Keep the element of surprise. Tucking a ring-sized box under the tree is likely to give the game away before you’re ready. Why not be more creative by hiding the ring inside a Christmas cracker or tree decoration, or at the end of a treasure hunt?
- Two’s company – three’s an audience? Think carefully about whether you want to propose privately or in front of the family. Is your partner shy, or likely to cry if caught off-guard? Perhaps they would prefer to break the news of your engagement together as a couple, rather than find out you’re getting married at the same time everyone else does!
- Pick your moment with care. Be patient – wait for a moment when your partner is relaxed and not distracted by other tasks. Don’t pop the question while they’re trying to carve the turkey!
- Keep the receipt. If you’ve spent hours picking out the perfect ring, don’t take it personally if your partner isn’t as keen. They’ll have to wear it every day for the rest of their life, so isn’t it better that they choose something they truly adore?
